Reviews / Angi Leads
Angi leads reviews for contractors: what they cost and who else gets them. And how to own your leads instead.
The short answer
- Each Angi request can go to up to 5 pros, and you pay for the lead whether you win the job or not.
- Angi doesn't publish lead prices. Bad-lead credits only cover set reasons, come as credits (not cash) and expire in 6 months.
- In 2023 the FTC ordered HomeAdvisor, part of Angi, to pay up to $7.2 million over how it marketed its leads.
- Vaultio is $449 a month for your own website, SEO, AI search and Google profile. Leads go only to you, with no per-lead fees.
If you're reading Angi leads reviews, you're probably asking one thing: is it worth what I'm paying? Maybe you've paid for leads that never picked up the phone, or found out three other contractors got the same call.
Full disclosure: I run Vaultio, which helps contractors get leads from their own website and Google profile instead. So here's what Angi's own help center, contract and annual report say, in plain English, and you can decide.
Angi leads reviews: what contractors like
Angi puts you in front of homeowners who are actively looking for help, without building anything yourself. For a brand-new business with an empty calendar, that can be useful. That's worth saying.
The catch is how the model works: you're renting attention on someone else's platform, sharing it with other pros, and paying for every lead whether it turns into a job or not.
How Angi leads work
- A homeowner's request becomes a lead when both you and the homeowner show interest. That's when you're charged.
- You're charged whether or not you reach the homeowner, and a lead isn't a guaranteed job (Angi help center).
- Angi says a homeowner is matched with no more than five pros. Its contract says leads are often sent to other pros, including Angi's own service.
- Angi's annual report says pros pay for matches whether or not they end up doing the job.
What Angi leads cost
Angi doesn't publish a price list. Its billing FAQ says lead fees vary by the type of job, the homeowner's location and demand. You can pay three ways:
- Pay per lead: you set a monthly budget, billed weekly. Angi can go over your budget by a lead or two, and leads you accept from the Opportunities tab are billed on top.
- Subscription: prepaid for discounted leads, on a fixed term that renews automatically. The price can rise up to 10% at renewal, an early termination fee may apply, and cancelling doesn't refund the current term.
- Lead bundle: buy a set of leads up front.
Angi's Pro Agreement also mentions an annual membership fee "where applicable," without listing an amount.
Angi lead credits and refunds
Angi offers lead credits for some bad leads (how credits work). They're credits toward future leads, not cash, and they expire after 6 months.
When Angi may credit a lead:
- Invalid contact information
- The job is outside your ZIP codes
- The service doesn't match what you offer
- You were charged twice for the same lead within 45 days
- You were charged while your leads were paused
You must request it within 45 days, have tried to call within 24 hours, and have no overdue balance. Annual subscribers can report leads but can't get credits.
No credit if the homeowner doesn't respond, hires someone else, drops the project, is just collecting quotes, or you quoted and lost the job. Those are the leads most contractors complain about.
The FTC case against HomeAdvisor
HomeAdvisor is part of Angi. In 2023 the FTC finalized an order requiring HomeAdvisor to pay up to $7.2 million (FTC case page). In its announcement, the FTC said that "while HomeAdvisor has represented that service providers only will receive leads matching the types of services they provide and their preferred geographic area, many of them do not" (FTC press release).
The final order prohibits HomeAdvisor from making false or misleading claims about its leads. It was a settlement, and in November 2023 the FTC returned more than $3 million to affected businesses.
Who owns your profile and reviews?
Angi's Pro Agreement says content on Angi's platform, including your profile and the reviews customers leave there, belongs to Angi (your own logos and trademarks excepted). You can't reuse reviews that were first published on Angi. If you leave, Angi can keep showing your information unless you ask in writing for it to be removed.
Compare that to your Google Business Profile: the reviews customers leave there are on your listing, under your business name. That's what we help you grow.
Angi leads vs Vaultio: side by side
Renting leads vs owning your marketing, line by line.

Renting leads vs owning your marketing
With pay-per-lead, the leads stop the day you stop paying, and every month starts from zero. With your own website and Google profile, every page, review and ranking keeps working for you, and the calls come only to you.
To be straight: Angi can send leads this week. SEO takes time to build. That's why we give it 3 months in our guarantee: Top 3 on Google, or we work free until you are. Plenty of contractors keep Angi running while their own site ramps up.
